Microsoft Outlook Faces Global Outage: What We Know So Far

 



Introduction : Microsoft Outlook users globally were in panic on November 25, 2024, after a widespread outage disabled their email service. In addition to Outlook, Microsoft 365 services were also impacted — a nightmare for users around the world.


The Outage: Problems started cropping up around 8 a.m. ET, with users greeted with issues accessing their emails, calendars and other functionalities. The disruption was also felt in the UK, Netherlands, Poland, France and Sweden.

The company said it had pinpointed a recent change as the likely cause of the disruption, and that it had started to roll out a fix to solve the problem1. Microsoft warned users to be wary of scammers impersonating support agents, and encouraged them to report any suspicious behavior to their banks.


User Impact: The outage affected millions of individual and corporate users that use Outlook for day-to-day communication and scheduling. Frustrated and eager for updates on the matter, several users went to social media to voice their grievances1. Updated accounts via its online admin centre and social media, telling users it was trying to restore functionality as quickly as possible.
